The park sits squarely on the floor of the Great Rift Valley and is surrounded by characteristic woody and bushy grassland, her sky-mirrored lake water extending to an expansive mass of semi-alkaline water, which is rich in green algae. The algae attracts a huge number of pink flamingos giving it the name birds paradise. The name “Amboseli” comes from a Masai word meaning “salty dust”, and it is one of the best places in Africa to view large herds of Elephants up close. Other animals include Blue Wildebeest, Masai giraffe, Sported hyena, Cheetah, Grant zebra, Cape buffaloes, Impala, and Wild dogs among others.
